Nioh 3 Lightning Sword Build Guide

Complete Nioh 3 Lightning Sword Build guide with optimal stat allocation, equipment choices, skill selections, and combat tips for easy difficulty samurai gameplay.

Lightning Sword Build Overview

The Lightning Sword build is one of the strongest and most accessible setups in Nioh 3. It pairs the sword's balanced moveset with Lightning Talisman buffs to deal consistent elemental damage on every hit. Because the sword has fast recovery frames in Mid Stance and reliable Ki Pulse windows, you have room to learn boss patterns without getting punished for small mistakes.

This build leans on Heart for sword scaling and Ki, with enough Courage to keep your Ki recovery competitive. Lightning damage applies the Electrified status, which slows enemy movement and attack speed — giving you even more breathing room during aggressive fights. Against Yokai, Electrified also makes it easier to deplete their Ki bar and trigger a grapple for massive burst damage.

You can run this build from the very first mission all the way through Dream of the Demon. The Warrior of the East set provides a lightning damage bonus at 4 pieces and a Ki recovery bonus at 6 pieces, both of which directly amplify what this build wants to do. Raiken as your guardian spirit adds further lightning damage and a strong burst attack for finishing staggered bosses.

Heart is the priority stat because it governs both Sword scaling and your maximum Ki pool. More Ki means longer combos before needing to back off. Courage at 30 gives strong passive Ki recovery so you can re-engage faster after blocking or dodging. Skill at 25 unlocks key Samurai abilities and adds secondary damage scaling for the sword. Constitution stays at 20 for a comfortable HP buffer without over-investing. Magic and Dexterity only need 10 each — enough to equip Lightning Talisman and Quick-Change Scroll.

Warrior of the East is the core armor set. The 4-piece bonus adds flat lightning damage to your attacks, and the 6-piece bonus boosts Ki recovery speed. Both bonuses stack perfectly with this build's stat priorities. Raiken as guardian spirit adds a passive lightning damage bonus and its burst attack deals heavy lightning damage to a single target — ideal for boss staggers. The Spear secondary gives you a long-range poke option for enemies that are dangerous at sword range, like large Yokai with wide sweeps.

Skills

  • Sword Ki — recover Ki during combos without stopping
  • Flux II — gain bonus Ki on stance switches during Ki Pulse
  • Living Water: Heaven — Ki Pulse on dodge in High Stance
  • Morning Moon — fast counterattack after a perfect block
  • Iai Quickdraw — charged unsheathing strike for burst damage
  • Shadow Sword — gap-closing dash attack from Mid Stance

Playstyle Tips

  • 1.Apply Lightning Talisman before boss fights and refresh it during safe windows when the boss does long recovery animations
  • 2.Mid Stance is your bread-and-butter — fast attacks, good block, decent dodge. Only switch stances for specific situations
  • 3.Switch to High Stance when an enemy is staggered or out of Ki for maximum burst damage with Iai Quickdraw
  • 4.Practice Ki Pulse timing after every combo string. Perfect Ki Pulses restore more Ki and let you chain into the next attack immediately
  • 5.Use Flux (stance switch during Ki Pulse) to gain back nearly all your Ki even after a long combo. This is what separates good sword players from great ones
  • 6.Against Yokai, lightning Electrified status makes their Ki drain faster. Focus on depleting their Ki bar to trigger grapple opportunities
  • 7.The Spear secondary is not just a backup — use it against large bosses where sword range feels too risky, then switch back to sword for stagger windows
