Nioh 3 Onmyo Switchglaive Guide
Complete Nioh 3 Onmyo Switchglaive guide with optimal stat allocation, equipment choices, skill selections, and combat tips for medium difficulty onmyo gameplay.
Onmyo Switchglaive Overview
The Onmyo Switchglaive build is the premier spellcaster setup in Nioh 3. The switchglaive is the only weapon that scales primarily with Magic, meaning every point you invest in your spells also makes your melee attacks hit harder. This dual benefit makes the build incredibly stat-efficient and one of the strongest late-game options.
The gameplay loop centers on cycling through elemental Familiars (Fire, Water, Lightning) to trigger Confusion — a devastating status that occurs when two different elements are applied to an enemy simultaneously. A Confused enemy takes significantly more damage from all sources and has greatly reduced Ki recovery, turning even endgame bosses into punching bags.
Extraction Talisman and Barrier Talisman form the utility backbone. Extraction converts a portion of damage dealt into Amrita, fueling your guardian spirit burst attacks. Barrier Talisman purifies Yokai Realm pools on the ground and massively boosts your Ki recovery inside them, turning dangerous terrain into an advantage. This build thrives from mid-game onward and only gets stronger as you unlock more Onmyo capacity.
Stat Distribution
* Target stats at level 150. Adjust based on your current progress.
Magic at 60 is the centerpiece — it scales Switchglaive damage, increases Onmyo capacity (more spell uses), and boosts Onmyo power. This single stat does triple duty, making the build extremely efficient. Constitution at 20 and Courage at 20 provide enough HP and Ki recovery to survive comfortably. Heart at 15 gives a baseline Ki pool. Other stats stay minimal because the build has no use for Strength, Dexterity, or Skill scaling.
Equipment
| Slot | Item |
|---|---|
| Primary Weapon | Switchglaive |
| Secondary Weapon | Sword |
| Armor Set | Onmyo Mage's Hunting Attire |
| Guardian Spirit | Genbu |
Onmyo Mage's Hunting Attire boosts Onmyo capacity and spell duration at 4 pieces, with the 6-piece bonus increasing elemental damage dealt. This lets your Familiars and elemental weapon buffs hit harder and last longer. Genbu guardian spirit adds a flat Magic bonus and defensive stats, and its burst attack creates a protective barrier — useful for surviving mistakes while you learn boss patterns. The Sword secondary is a fast fallback weapon for situations where the switchglaive's slower animations are a liability.
Skills
- Flux — Ki on stance switch during Ki Pulse
- Ki Pulse: Heaven — dodge-cancel Ki Pulse in High Stance
- Switchglaive Mastery — passive switchglaive damage increase
Playstyle Tips
- 1.Summon two different elemental Familiars before engaging a boss. When both elements apply, the enemy enters Confusion — your primary damage multiplier
- 2.High Stance has the widest sweeps and highest damage, making it excellent for crowds. Switch to Mid Stance for single-target boss fights where precision matters more
- 3.Barrier Talisman is not just for Yokai Realm pools — it also significantly boosts Ki recovery everywhere. Keep it active as much as possible
- 4.Extraction Talisman converts your damage into Amrita, which fills your guardian spirit gauge. Use Genbu's burst attack during boss staggers for a massive damage window
- 5.Save Sloth Talisman for bosses that give you trouble. It dramatically reduces their speed, making patterns much easier to read and punish
- 6.The switchglaive transforms between three forms when you switch stances. High is a long-range scythe, Mid is a balanced glaive, Low is a compact blade. Each has completely different movesets
- 7.Rotate between Fire and Lightning Familiars as your default pair. Water Familiar is useful against fire-resistant enemies as a swap option
