Nioh 3 Purity Odachi Guide

AMediumSamurai

Complete Nioh 3 Purity Odachi guide with optimal stat allocation, equipment choices, skill selections, and combat tips for medium difficulty samurai gameplay.

Purity Odachi Overview

The Purity Odachi build pairs the hardest-hitting melee weapon in the game with the Purity element, which is specifically effective against Yokai enemies. Purity-imbued attacks drain Yokai Ki at an accelerated rate, and once a Yokai's Ki bar is fully depleted, they enter a vulnerable state where you can execute a devastating grapple attack. The odachi's massive per-hit damage means fewer swings are needed to break that Ki bar.

The playstyle is methodical and deliberate. In High Stance, every swing of the odachi deals enormous damage but commits you to a long animation. You need to pick your openings carefully — one or two well-timed High Stance attacks deal more total damage than a full combo from a faster weapon. Mid Stance sweeps are your go-to for groups of enemies, hitting in a wide arc that can stagger multiple targets.

This build benefits heavily from heavy armor. High Stamina and Strength let you wear the Golden Nioh set at A-rank agility (just under 70% equipment weight), which means you still have serviceable dodges while tanking through lighter hits with hyper armor. Saoirse as guardian spirit provides a Purity damage bonus and a defensive burst attack that can save you during emergencies.

Strength at 40 is the primary stat for Odachi scaling and raw melee damage. Stamina at 30 lets you equip heavy armor without dropping below A-rank agility — this is a critical breakpoint because B-rank agility cripples your dodge distance. Courage at 35 gives excellent Ki recovery, which the Odachi desperately needs because its attacks consume heavy Ki. Constitution at 25 provides a solid HP pool for trading hits. Heart at 20 gives enough maximum Ki for 3-4 High Stance attacks before needing a Ki Pulse.

Golden Nioh Armor provides Ki recovery speed at 4 pieces and a melee damage bonus at 6 pieces. Both directly support the Odachi's gameplay of swinging hard and recovering Ki between attacks. Saoirse guardian spirit adds Purity damage and provides a defensive burst counter — useful when a boss catches you mid-swing. The Sword secondary gives you a faster option for enemies where the odachi's slow speed becomes a liability, like fast human bosses with short punish windows.

Skills

  • Flux II — essential for Ki recovery on stance switch
  • Moonlit Snow — powerful multi-hit combo finisher in High Stance
  • Crashing Waves — wide sweeping attack for crowd control
  • Ki Pulse: Heaven — dodge-cancel Ki Pulse in High Stance
  • Odachi Mastery — passive damage increase

Playstyle Tips

  • 1.High Stance is your primary damage dealer, but commit only during safe windows. A missed High Stance swing leaves you vulnerable for a long time
  • 2.Mid Stance sweeps are better for groups — the wide arc staggers multiple enemies and costs less Ki than High Stance
  • 3.Purity Talisman should be active for every Yokai boss fight. Purity drains their Ki bar faster, creating more grapple opportunities for massive damage
  • 4.Time your attacks around enemy recovery animations. One well-placed High Stance hit during a boss's end lag deals more than a full Mid Stance combo
  • 5.Keep Flux II active in your muscle memory — switching stances during Ki Pulse recovers nearly all your Ki, and the odachi burns through Ki fast
  • 6.If you are constantly running out of Ki, check your equipment weight. Dropping below A-rank agility (70% weight) is the most important threshold for this build
  • 7.Use the Sword secondary against fast human bosses like duel encounters. The odachi's slow startup makes it risky against enemies with fast counterattacks
