Nioh 3 Water Spear Build Guide
Complete Nioh 3 Water Spear Build guide with optimal stat allocation, equipment choices, skill selections, and combat tips for easy difficulty samurai gameplay.
Water Spear Build Overview
The Water Spear build is the safest and most defensive option in Nioh 3. The spear has the longest natural range of any melee weapon, letting you hit enemies from a distance where most of their attacks cannot reach you. Combined with the Water element, which applies Saturation (reducing enemy defense and Ki recovery), this build turns aggression into a steady, controlled process.
Mid Stance is your default — the spear's forward thrusts have excellent range and reasonable speed, making them safe to throw out even when you are not sure of the opening. Low Stance pokes are faster and great for applying Saturation quickly, while High Stance overhead slams deal heavy damage for punish windows. The spear rewards patience; keeping enemies at medium range where your weapon excels and theirs does not is the key to this build.
Warrior of the West armor provides a water damage bonus and attack speed increase, compensating for the spear's slightly slower-than-average swing speed. Mizuchi as guardian spirit adds passive water damage and a powerful area-of-effect burst attack that applies Saturation to everything around you. This build is the recommended starting choice for anyone who struggled with Nioh 2's difficulty.
Stat Distribution
* Target stats at level 150. Adjust based on your current progress.
Constitution at 30 gives a large HP pool for a forgiving experience — this build is about surviving mistakes, not avoiding them. Strength at 30 is the primary Spear scaling stat and increases raw melee damage. Stamina at 30 lets you wear medium-heavy armor at A-rank agility, giving you toughness without sacrificing dodge quality. Courage at 25 provides Ki recovery so you can keep poking without running dry. Skill at 20 adds secondary Spear scaling and unlocks useful Samurai passives.
Equipment
| Slot | Item |
|---|---|
| Primary Weapon | Spear |
| Secondary Weapon | Sword |
| Armor Set | Warrior of the West |
| Guardian Spirit | Mizuchi |
Warrior of the West set provides water damage bonus at 4 pieces and increased attack speed at 6 pieces. The attack speed bonus is meaningful for the spear because it reduces the time you spend committed to attack animations. Mizuchi guardian spirit adds passive water damage, increases Saturation buildup, and its burst attack creates a water AOE around you — useful when enemies close the distance. The Sword secondary is for when enemies get inside your spear range and you need a faster weapon to deal with them up close.
Skills
- Flux — Ki on stance switch during Ki Pulse
- Spear Flourish — spinning multi-hit attack for groups
- Chidori — fast forward thrust from Mid Stance
- Ki Pulse: Earth — Ki Pulse on dodge in Low Stance
- Spear Mastery — passive spear damage increase
Playstyle Tips
- 1.Mid Stance is your default for almost every situation. The forward thrust has great range and low commitment — perfect for safe pokes
- 2.Keep enemies at medium range where your spear can hit them but their attacks fall short. This is the core skill of the build
- 3.Low Stance pokes apply Saturation fast — switch to Low, land 3-4 quick hits to apply the debuff, then switch back to Mid for sustained damage
- 4.Saturation reduces enemy defense and Ki recovery. Against bosses, maintaining Saturation is more valuable than any raw damage buff
- 5.Use Sloth Talisman on bosses that move too fast for you to maintain spacing. A slowed boss is trivial to keep at spear range
- 6.Spear Flourish is your crowd control tool — use it when multiple enemies close in. The spinning hits stagger most regular enemies
- 7.Do not be afraid to back away and reset spacing. The spear rewards patient play, not aggressive rushdown
