PlayStation 5PlayStation Store — search "Nioh 3 Demo"Free PS account, ~20 GB storage
PCSteam — search "Nioh 3" and select the demo optionFree Steam account, meets minimum PC specs

The demo was released on January 29, 2026 and remains available after the full game launched on February 6. There is no Xbox or Nintendo Switch version of the demo.

What's Included in the Demo

The demo covers the opening portion of Nioh 3, letting you experience the core gameplay loop before committing to the full game. You get access to:

  • Character creation with full customization options
  • Early-game story missions spanning the first region
  • Both Samurai and Ninja combat styles with multiple weapons per style
  • Stance system (Samurai) and Mist evasion (Ninja) mechanics
  • Shrine checkpoint system, leveling, and basic crafting
  • Online features including co-op summoning and Bloody Graves

The demo gives enough content to test several weapon types. If you are unsure which weapon to main, check our Weapon Tier List for current rankings.

Does Demo Progress Carry Over?

Yes. Demo save data carries over to the full game. Your character level, items, equipment, and mission progress all transfer — as long as you use the same platform and the same account.

This means time spent in the demo is not wasted. You can experiment with different weapons, grind for better gear, and level up your stats, and all of it will be waiting for you in the full game.

If you plan to carry over your save, it is worth investing time into a solid build from the start. Our Beginner Build and Lightning Sword Build are both strong starting setups that scale well into mid-game.

Completion Rewards

Players who completed the demo by February 15, 2026 received the Twin-Snake Helmet, an exclusive cosmetic headpiece available in the full game. The helmet was automatically added to your storehouse upon starting the full game with a qualifying demo save.

The Twin-Snake Helmet reward deadline has passed (Feb 15, 2026). If you completed the demo before that date, the helmet should already be in your storehouse in the full game.

Co-op in the Demo

The demo supports online co-op through the same systems used in the full game:

  • Ochoko Cup Summoning: Use Ochoko Cups at Shrines to summon a random helper into your mission
  • Torii Gate: Matchmake with other players or invite friends directly for co-op missions
  • Bloody Graves: Touch the graves of fallen players to fight their AI revenants for loot

Note that crossplay between PS5 and PC was not available at demo launch. Co-op on PS5 requires PlayStation Plus.

Tips for First-Time Players

If the demo is your first time playing Nioh, these tips will help you survive the opening hours:

  1. Learn Ki Pulse immediately. Pressing R1 after attacking recovers stamina. This is the single most important mechanic in Nioh 3. Master it early and every fight becomes easier.
  2. Pick one weapon and learn its stances. Do not spread yourself thin across every weapon type. The Katana Build is a reliable starting choice with a balanced moveset.
  3. Use Mid Stance as your default. Mid Stance offers the best balance between attack speed, block strength, and dodge distance. Switch to High Stance for damage windows and Low Stance for evasion.
  4. Do not ignore Onmyo and Ninjutsu. Even melee builds benefit from buffs like Steel Talisman (defense) and Quick-Change Scroll (second chance on death).
  5. Explore thoroughly. Nioh 3 rewards exploration with Kodama collectibles, hidden loot, and shortcuts back to Shrines.
  6. Plan your stats early. Since demo progress carries over, check our best Nioh 3 builds to allocate stats efficiently from the start.
